Bear Briefing

GREETINGS: Things have been a bit busy due to the teacher institute workshop, auction project/preparation, writing report cards, and just everyday life! Therefore this blog will be more brief than usual. Please ask your children about the bullet-pointed topics for more information.

LANGUAGE ARTS: We have been exploring forms of figurative language during reading and writing times. While listening to our AWESOME read aloud, Starry River of the Sky, students realized how frequently and immensely figurative language enhances experiences. Hopefully. You were able to read the Cub’s Corner advice column. If not, check it out!!!

  • Idioms
  • Similes
  • Metaphors
  • Forming inferences by how characters relate to one another
  • Summarizing
  • Current event articles

MATH: My math class continued to explore place value and large numbers. Students were introduced to fractions and participated in many differentiated activities/tasks/games.

  • Built, calculated, and rebuilt structures using base-ten blocks to reinforce place value
  • Rounding to different place values
  • Fractions (numerator, denominator, reading, and comparing)

SOCIAL STUDIES:

  • President reports and finishing touches
  • Political parties and presidency
  • Democrat and Republican parties explained (more to come later)

  • Spread Kindness
